CPPCC Leaders on Role of People's Political Consultative Conference

A national meeting on the experience of the work of local committees of the people'spolitical consultative conferences closed Thursday Beijing.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member ofthe Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over the closing session of the meeting and delivered a speech.

Vice-Chairman Ye Xuanping of the CPPCC National Committee addressed the closing, saying that the cause of the people'spolitical consultative conference is making progress under the leadership the CPC Central Committee with Jiang Zemin at the core.

The local committees of the people's political consultative conferences across the country are playing an important role in promoting economic construction and development, maintaining social stability, fighting bureaucracy and formalism, improving ethics education, and enforcing the legal system, Ye said. With an abundance of valuable experience, the people'spolitical consultative conference has entered into a significant period, Ye said.

There are over 3,000 local committees of the people's political consultative conferences across the country, with more than 500,000 committee members in total.
