DHAKA, April 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Eight alleged members of a banned political party were lynched by angry villagers in western Bangladesh on Sunday.
Police said some 10 armed operatives of the outlawed Sharbahara Party on Sunday entered a village in the western district Faridpur from the bordering district Rajbari after being chased by the Rajbari's villagers.
The villagers of Faridpur were said to recognize them because the villagers used to be extorted frequently by the Sharbahara members.
A large number of villagers caught them and started mass beating. Seven of the ill-fated outlaw party members died on the spot and another one died on his way to a local hospital.
Police sources said the party has operated in northern, western and southwestern Bangladesh for more than two decades, and got involved in a lot of criminal activities.
The official Bangladesh News Agency on Sunday added a temporary police camp has been set up in the area to avert any further incident.
